Not the best quality photograph, but for a photo from a camera phone, it's not bad. Despite that, it's of an interesting engine from an interesting angle! Taken from the track underpass, "Linda," the 0-4-0 Ffestiniog Railway loco has just come onto the main running line from the steaming bays where the locos are steamed, prepped and oiled. The 3.5" Locomotive, owned by Don Squib, was built at evening classes from drawings and his photos of the original built for the narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway. For the boiler, Don wrote to Martin Evans, then the editor of 'The Model Engineer' magazine for assistance, and he designed personally the boiler for the loco. Don believes that his request lead Martin Evans to shortly design and publish the "Conway" design, of a 3.5" 0-4-0 welsh narrow gauge loco. Those who know the design will notice the similarities...
