This is a special model, built by John Dixon, and it is of an American style 'shay' locomotive. It is 3.5" gauge and has 3 cylinders - all on one side (side shown). They are small bore and work a shaft which travels horizontally along the loco. The loco and tender are one fixed unit, on two articulating bogies. This was to allow the full size loco to navigate around exceptionally tight corners, as they worked log trains in the USA. The very small wheels and gearing give an exceptionally slow locomotive, but with a high torque, as heavy loads at lower speeds were the way the prototypes worked.
